Halloween is such a fun holiday for kids! Dressing up in super cool costumes, trick-or-treating and getting lots of yummy treats. However, it can be hard for those kiddos with food allergies so I love the Teal Pumpkin Project, which started up last year. By displaying your teal pumpkin on your front porch, you are letting families know that your home is providing allergy-friendly options for the trick-or-treaters. Some options include: stickers, bracelets, pencils, bubbles or glow sticks. My son has food allergies and we think the Teal Pumpkin Project is super cool. It’s a great way to keep Halloween safe for ALL kids!
So Delicious Dairy Free is hosting a photo contest this month, the #KeepItTeal campaign, to support Kids With Food Allergies. For every photo uploaded with #KeepItTeal to instagram, facebook, or twitter during the month of October, they will donate $3 to Kids with Food Allergies {KFA}. So awesome! So Delicious will select one lucky winner to receive $300 for their photo. They will also select 3 runners-up to receive 10 FREE product coupons. Here are the rules for the contest…
- snap a photo showing how you support the #KeepItTeal movement {your teal pumpkin or non-food treats}
- upload your photo to instagram between 10/12-10/31
- include a description of your photo and #KeepItTeal
- tag @So_Delicious and @kidswithfoodallergies your post
- limit one entry per person per day
- winners selected by a committee at So Delicious Dairy Free and will be contacted individually by November 6, 2015.
As some of you may know, KFA is a foundation that provides kids and parents with practical information and the tools they need to live well and happily, while managing food allergies. KFA helps save lives and is making a difference for so many families. Let’s help KFA #KeepItTeal this October!
For my Teal Pumpkin Project, I made this inexpensive fabric covered pumpkin. I absolutely love how it turned out! To make your very own fabric covered pumpkin, you will need…
- white foam pumpkin {if choosing to save for future use}
- 1 1/2-inch wide strips of teal fabric {20-25 depending on size of pumpkin}
- Mod Podge {Outdoor Modge Podge if displaying pumpkin outside}
- fabric paint for stem
- foam brush
- plastic table cover to protect workspace
First, cover your workspace with plastic table cover. Paint stem of pumpkin and let dry completely. Dilute Mod Podge by adding water {75% Mod Podge to 25% water}. Lay strips of fabric on flat surface, right side down. Using foam brush, coat fabric with Mod Podge mixure. Fold down top of strip about 1/2-inch and coat with Mod Podge. Lay strips vertically onto pumpkin, starting at stem. Stretch fabric slightly to mold to the pumpkin. Brush on additional Mod Podge over top of fabric to coat. Continue with additional fabric strips. Allow pumpkin to dry completely.
